Dedicated to the Abandoned people, to the "Abandoners" and to those who have been struggling with abandonment issues all around, and have made abandonment happen in their lives. May you all find peace!
My flight to Belize City went smooth and I must say that business class is really comfortable. A woman seated on my left - her official seat was a few rows back but she exchanged it with other passengers who wanted to sit closer. I was too tired to interact at all and I was following Marcello's advice on staying low profile when I am tired or did not get enough sleep. I just lent her my pen to fill out Belize immigration forms: this is was the limited interaction we had.
And I spent most of my flight watching the 6th season of Lucifer, caught by an heartbreaking episode: a kid was abandoned by her mom when young, and this kid became a killer as an adult (or something like this).
Poor Jimmy, he must have felt so alone.
Jimmy, I can't get you out of Hell, only you can do that. I'm not even sure if you deserve to get out of here after what you've done. But I now see the pain behind the terrible decisions that you made in life. Doesn't excuse them, but I understand them now.
This let me think about many decisions I made in my own life, but that's another story. Once landed, except the horrible weather forecasts for the week, I just felt the incredible high amount of humidity.
After spending more than 1h in trying to solve an issue with my debit card - I forgot to communicate to the bank my travel plans and they blocked my card - I hit the little downtown of Belize City, where I was able to take my transition pic, wearing my Iceland headscarf in front of the Belize sign at the lighthouse.
And I also found the Belize bracelet, right on the first day (WooHoo!).
Day 1
Our
Intrepid tour started at 6pm as usual. We were 6 of us and guess what:
the woman sitting next to me on the plane, was one of those. Her name was Laura, she was Italian, from Milan, now living in San Francisco, with a degree in Archaeology, as I discovered the following day.
I got shocked... the more we talked, the more we looked like twin souls. I've always avoided Italians in organized trips - unless an amazing experience I had with
Caldana, due to Covid, where I thought I met the woman of my life, but too young for me.
We went for a dinner to a very delicious Lebanese restaurant and that was it for the night.
Day 2
Our day started we a
boat tour to the
Lamanai Maya archaeological site. Our guide Eddie drove us through the
New River for about 1h, to reach the archaeological site.
On the way to our destination, we got the change to see one of
John McAfee properties (now sold), as well as 2 camouflaged bats and floating liliums.
And I also learnt about the
Mennonites communities, which apparently are pretty powerful in Belize and manage many aspects of agriculture and poultry business (details
here).
The site was gigantic and we had the chance to visit so many buildings. A lot of misteries still surround Maya's society.
We ended our tour by
drinking a margarita on the dock before boarding our bus towards the Birds Eye Lodge, a beautiful accommodation on the river.
Before dinner I got the chance to
take a walk with Desire and Laura and this is when I discovered more about Laura, including an additional thing we have in common:
meditation. She suggested to try
transcendental meditation: who knows if this can work?! And we also talked about the
Camino de Santiago, who both of us want to do one day.
She is presenting her book to the public on January 11th in San Francisco,
I really hope I can attend the event: all the details about Laura on her
official website.
And yes, I took a pic before dinner as the Moon was fantastic, in case this can help me to find a wife sooner ☺
