STOP 5 | Canary Islands: Making (re)Connections + Perspectives

Dedicated to my ever green best friend, who I disappointed big time without understanding it, and who made me start my health journey last year, with simple words in a pandemic environment. I will always be grateful to you, no matter what's going to happen. I truly hope we can go back and laugh again, one day, and we can forget the past me all together.

Re-Branding

I've decided to change the official title of the blog from Focus on Myself to Making (re)Connections. The former is really selfish, while the purpose of this journey is to create connections with people, with nature and with myself.

Perspectives

When I was able to get a haircut, I wanted to show some friends of mine to get their advice. I really hate long beard and too much hair on my head, and I let too much time passed. I tried to take some selfies to send over, but I was awful, really really awful. Then I look at the mirror and took another pic: I don't wanna say I am necessarily gorgeous or the best looking man ever, however I found myself - pretty selfishly - pretty handsome. This let me think that often in life it's a matter of perspectives: it was still me but the perception was totally different. So note to self: work on / think of perceptions as well

Reconnecting with self

I found connection with my body as well, as I am not fully ashamed to be photographed now, which is a success. I can feel and touch with hands the missing belly and the -56kg / - 123lbs.

Italians

Fuerteventura is full of Italians, or probably Italians are everywhere, but I found them working as waiters/waitress in bars, owning restaurants and being tourists all around. I've also found Priscila, the information center lady at the Oasi Park, who spoke an amazing Italian and congratulated me for my break for work saying: Congrats on doing this, you should be taken as example by all the people around, in all this craziness.

The fact the Italians are everywhere may not be a matter of pride: they are here because Italy does not allow them to have a proper job. Our rulers should look at Italy more holistically, and not to cheer at it only after sport success such as Euro 2020 or Olympics Tokyo 2020: that's a shame!
